The buildings pictured are a small sample of commercial property that is currently vacant in the town centre of Perth.
What's causing the decline of the town centre? Is the city centre parking policy partly responsible for the down turn in trade and empty shops?
Asking around we found that in general people want to go shopping by car. Who shops in the city centre? It's easier to visit a shop with a big carpark out front.
There is no "do nothing" option - the town centre of Perth must grow or it will continue to decline as trade is attracted away to other areas.
Apologies to Mr Kerrigan. The tobacconist is still open and trading. With an excellent range of cigars and pipe tobacco. Please support your local business.
In the town centre of Perth there are more than 30 empty, abandoned or derelict retail units. Not including the empty office spaces. Each of these units are within 5 minutes walk of the Council buildings in the High Street. The people concerned with the economic development of Perth and Kinross walk past the empty buildings everyday. Their main concern is the promotion of tourism. What do our visitors think when they visit the city centre? No amount of trees, tartan and tourism can hide the signs of economic decay.
